How your web site helped me find my mother's family

Submitted by Kate, England

I was born in Johannesburg on the 7th of July 1953 and I am on your database. My mother was Marita Kerwan.

I have now found my birth family, thanks to the help of Kay Fermo and Carol Fenske, a SA birthmother who saw my posting, contacted me and told me how to proceed. My birthmother died in 1992. I have found that I have a sister, five brothers, an aunt, (my mother's sister) an uncle (my mother's brother) and loads of cousins.

I have spoken to my aunt, my uncle and two of my brothers. Two of my cousins have e-mailed me and I have been invited to a family wedding in October to meet everyone, my husband and I will be going to Johannesburg then.

My birth family could not have been kinder or more welcoming. Having been brought up as an only child, I am overwhelmed by the fact I have so many siblings. I always dreamed of finding a brother or sister, so six of them is brilliant.

Thank you so much for your website, I don't think I would have pursued my quest if it had not been available, now I am so pleased that I did.
